Sonoita,
Arizona
Sonoita, Arizona is located at almost
5000' in a high valley surrounded by the Santa Rita, Huachucha,
Mustang, Empire and Whetstone Mountains. Large portions of the land
are administered by the Bureau of Land Management and the National
Forest Service.
You
may stay at one of the several B&B's such as La
Hacienda de Sonoita, which is a bed and breakfast dedicated
to the spirit of the West and the legacy of the American Cowboy.
Also, Rainbow's End Bed
& Breakfast, a 1920's ranch manager's home on historic horse
property that has been renovated into a four bedroom four bath bed
and breakfast. Grand
Adventures Ranch is a B&B for horse owners who can bring
their horse with them. They offer a wide range of Therapy Services
and Detoxification for horses and other animals. Another is Crown
C Ranch, who offer cattle drives at various times of the year.
The Sonoita
Inn is a western country lodge which captures local history
and flavor. The building, designed by the owner of Secretariat,
was inspired by the great racehorse. Xanadu
Ranch GetAway "Guest Ranch" is located in the high
grasslands surrounded by three mountain ranges and has a great view
of Wrightston's Peak. The
Walker Ranch has horseback riding and roping clinics, runs for
visiting dogs, a pond with pontoon boat, casitas, and a two story,
and an adobe brick home Main House.

Local favorite places to eat include The
Grasslands Bakery and Cafe, which is a bakery, cafe and cannery.
Their marmalades, jams, salsas, chutneys, and jellies represent
the southwest. Café
Sonoita offers regional dishes, seafood, dessert, beer, wines
from local wineries and worldwide. The
Canela Bistro supplement their menu with vegetables and herbs
organically grown in their gardens.

Great
places to visit include the Empire
Ranch Foundation, 2-room adobe and wood frame building which
dates to 1870 and is listed in the National Register of
Historic Places. It is located on 42,000-acres in the Las
Cienegas National Conservation Area, on public lands acquired
and administered since 1988 by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management
(BLM) Tucson Office. Also, check the web site of the
Santa Cruz County Fair and Rodeo Association and the Sonoita
Elgin Chamber of Commerce for upcoming events.
