Nogales
, Arizona
Nogales is Arizona's largest border
town and has a population of over 20,000. It is approximately 60
miles south of Tucson,
and just 10+ miles or so from Tubac
and Tumacacori. Just north
east of Nogales,
is Arizona's wine country - Patagonia,
Sonoita, and Elgin.
If entering from Patagonia, you will find the Arizona Vineyards
Winery. We admit that we did not have time to stay, but they had
a very interesting and friendly atmosphere (see it in the slideshow).
We liked it, and we will be back. Nogales is the
Spanish word for walnut or walnut
trees.
It
is impossible to describe Nogales, without considering
all of Nogales,
Arizona and Nogales, Sonora-Mexico. The population
on the Sonoran side is estimated to be near 500,000 people. However,
within this site we will focus on Nogales, Arizona,
though will link to sites that have information about Nogales, Sonora-Mexico.
It is known that General John J. Pershing etched his
name into the walls of the Tumacacori
ruin, but did you also know that Pancho Villa and
his cavalry were entertained by General John J. Pershing
in Nogales in August of 1914?
